Vintage Watch Care

I collect mainly Soviet era mechanical watches. Most of them are manual winding, so if you wear them daily, you should always wind them up at the same time daily to ensure accuracy. E.g 0800 every day.

All vintage watches sold here are mechanical, unless stated otherwise.

Tips when handling vintage watches

  • vintage watches should not be beaten or dropped, the older movement do not have shock proofing
  • vintage watches are generally not waterproof, especially watches with snap back cases.
  • over winding any mechanical watch may break the mainspring. Be careful when you are winding towards the end. When you will feel some tension, slow down the winding till it gets tight. If you wind too hard at the end, you may break the mainspring.
  • If you wear your vintage watches daily, it is necessary to service and oil vintage watches
  • Keep your vintages watch away from magnets. Strong magnetic fields may affect the accuracy of your watch since most vintage watches were made with iron based components in the movement or they do not have any anti-magnetic protection.
  • Vintage watches generally may gain or lose up to 5-10 minutes a day. Any accuracy of +/- 5 minutes is very good.
